2020 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report

Attached below is the 2020 Verizon DBIR. We encourage you to read the full report however we've provided a brief summary as follows:

Of all breaches:

45% featured hacking

22% included social breaches

70% were caused by external actors

55% by organised criminal groups

86% of breaches were financially motivated

37% stole or used credentials

As for the APAC region (more detail page 93 of the report):

'The APAC region is being targeted by financially motivated actors deploying ransomware to monetize their access. This region is also beset by phishing (often business email compromises), internal errors and has a higher-than-average rate of Cyber-Espionage-related breaches. Web application infrastructure is being targeted both by Denial of Service attacks affecting the availability of the assets, and by hacking attacks leveraging stolen credentials.'

This report, once again, proves that no matter where you are in the world, cyber attacks and breaches are rife and instances continue to grow in numbers and sophistication. Financial motivations, business email compromises and internal errors continue to lead the charge in the APAC region.
